He Definitely Earned it! Ogilvy Wins Doral.

WGC-CA Goes to Australian...

Geoff Ogilvy held onto his lead on Monday even as Vijay Singh, Retief Goosen and Jim Furyk did their best to take it away. Jealously guarding a -17, he carefully parred his way through the final holes to come away with the Cup and a 1-point lead over the three wannabes. Tiger made a charge and managed a -15 having to settle for 5th place.

It was the Aussie's fourth PGA Tour title. He had previous wins at the U.S. Open, Accenture Match Play and Tucson Open. And he and Adam Scott were pretty pumped about taking the tourney away from Woods. After Saturday's round, he said that he and Adam might put an "Aussie voodoo" on Tiger. Looked like something was working against the Number 1 on Sunday. But he didn't think 5th place was too bad considering what he called his "mistakes" and "terrible lies" and a "photographer"who "got" him on number 9 on Sunday.

Retief, Ernie, Tiger and others were scheduled to play Tavistock on Monday morning -- Tiger was to be first up. Play at Tavistock was delayed 2 1/2 hours to wait for them to finish Doral. So as soon as each finished up, they made a dash for Orlando. Tiger said it was going to be a long day.

It was a big deal for Ogilvy to beat out not only Woods, but the other big name players that were in contention. Sort of a vindication, since many considered his U.S. Open win at Winged Foot a gift from Phil Mickelson. He played a beautiful game of solid golf with only one bogie for the entire four rounds. Let's see if he can continue the dominance he showed us this weekend.
